Oahu Luau Guide 2027: Which Luau Is Right for You?

Eleven Oahu luaus grouped by location: inside Waikiki, close to Waikiki, and worth the drive

A luau is how many travelers remember their Hawaiian evening: traditional food, hula, Polynesian dance, and a fire knife spinning in the dark. What is less obvious before you book is that no two luaus on Oahu give you the same evening.

Some are indoor theater productions in the middle of Waikiki. Some are outdoor events on a resort lawn or a west-side shoreline, timed to the sunset. One is a full day of cultural villages on the northeast coast. When you are choosing, location, travel time, dinner, drinks and seating tier matter more than the size of the show; the right luau is the one that fits the rest of your itinerary.

This guide groups eleven Oahu luaus by how far they sit from Waikiki, with price tiers, venue and operating days for each.

Operating days are the first thing to check. Most of these do not run every night, and the schedule shifts with the season. All rates below are as of November 2026 and are subject to change without notice.

Pāʻina Waikiki Luau

Queensbreak, Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa / Resort-style open-air luau / Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

Pāʻina is held at Queensbreak on the third floor of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, which makes it the easiest real luau to reach in Waikiki. It opens with a fresh flower lei greeting, and the dinner packages add a welcome Mai Tai along with lei making and other cultural activities before the show.

There is no imu ceremony, but the performance itself stays close to a traditional luau show and it is beautifully staged. The dinner is what you would hope for from a luau held at a hotel: clean, carefully presented, and still carrying every element a luau buffet should have, from the Hawaiian dishes to the prime rib carving station. On the food alone it scores full marks.

The show space does not look directly at the ocean. The terrace on the same floor does, though, and it is a short walk from your table, so you can take in the sunset before dinner and come back for the performance. For anyone who wants the luau experience without leaving Waikiki, this is the one.

Show only Adults $135 / children ages 4–11 $85 / under 3 free
General seating with dinner Adults $180 / children ages 4–11 $120 / under 3 free
VIP seating Adults $210 / children ages 4–11 $150 / under 3 free
위치 Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
Days Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday

Aha Aina at The Royal Hawaiian

The Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki / Upscale luau beside the beach / Monday and Thursday

Walking into The Royal Hawaiian feels like walking into a palace, and Aha Aina is the hotel’s own luau. The venue sits out toward the beachfront, so as you come through the grounds the stage opens up with the Waikiki shoreline behind it. It is the most beautiful setting of any luau on Oahu, and the sunset from there is worth arriving early for.

This is Waikiki water, so it is not the quiet tropical shoreline some visitors picture; there are people on the beach and the scene is busy. As an evening where a full house enjoys itself together, though, it leaves nothing to be desired.

Everything is run to resort standard, the dinner and the show alike, and both are the best of this group. It is also the easiest of all of them to reach, a short walk for most Waikiki guests. It is the most expensive luau in Waikiki, and for a honeymoon or an anniversary it earns the difference.

Standard Adults $252.40 / children ages 5–12 $159 / ages 2–4 $21.20 / under 24 months free
Premium Adults $280.90 / children ages 5–12 $159 / ages 2–4 $21.20 / under 24 months free
위치 The Royal Hawaiian, Kalakaua Avenue
Days Monday and Thursday

록-아-훌라

Royal Hawaiian Center, Waikiki / Indoor theater production with a luau-style buffet / Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday

Rock-A-Hula sits inside the Royal Hawaiian Center, so most Waikiki guests simply walk over. It is worth being clear about what it is: not a traditional luau show, but a large-scale production of Polynesian dance and tribute performances honoring Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, staged with a live band in the 750-seat Royal Hawaiian Theater.

The food is the traditional part. Dinner is served as a Hawaiian luau-style buffet, so the dishes you came to Hawaii to try are still on the plate.

That combination suits three kinds of visitor: anyone who wants a show within walking distance of the hotel, anyone who wants stage production and entertainment value for the full length of the evening rather than tradition, and anyone who wants to taste traditional Hawaiian food alongside it. Because the theater is indoors, weather matters less here than anywhere else on this list.

Original dinner and show Adults $137.52 / children $82.13
VIP Adults $174.77 / children $105.05
Green Room Adults $227.29 / children $136.57, with a reception and backstage tour from 4:50 p.m.
위치 Royal Hawaiian Center, Kalakaua Avenue
Days Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday

Two cheaper tickets are sold as well and are left out above: a show-only seat at $94.55 for adults and $56.35 for children, and a luau-buffet-only ticket at $96.46 and $58.26 that covers the 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. dinner but not the show.

Waikiki Starlight Luau

Hilton Hawaiian Village / Outdoor lawn beside Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon / Usually Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

The Waikiki Starlight Luau at Hilton Hawaiian Village is an outdoor dinner show on the lawn beside Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, with the Waikiki shoreline and the palms behind the stage. It runs from sunset into the evening and covers the standard bill: a traditional buffet dinner, South Pacific dances and a fire knife performance. Being in central Waikiki, it gives you the fire show and a Hawaiian cultural programme without a drive out past the resorts, which makes it a practical choice for families and couples.

It runs on set days each week, usually Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Friday can coincide with the resort fireworks, so that night needs booking ahead; Friday seating in the two upper tiers costs roughly $50 to $60 more per adult.

Diamond Premier Adults $243 / children ages 4–9 $95
Golden Circle Adults $201 / children $84
Show only Adults $127 / children $62
Friday fireworks nights Diamond Premier and Golden Circle add roughly $50 to $60 to the adult rate
위치 Lawn beside Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, Hilton Hawaiian Village, 2005 Kalia Road
Days Set days each week, usually Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, weather permitting

Just Outside WaikikiTwenty to forty minutes by car

Experience Nutridge Luau

Nutridge Estate, Tantalus / Small-group evening up in the mountains / Tuesday through Friday

Nutridge is a small luau on the Tantalus ridge, on the grounds of what was Hawaii’s first commercial macadamia nut farm in the 1920s, an estate that later hosted Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley. Come here rather than a big luau venue when what you want is an evening in the forest; it is twenty to thirty minutes above Waikiki, and the trees make it feel much further out than that.

The stage is a lawn high on the hill, and the view below it is the reason to come: the ridgeline of Diamond Head, downtown Honolulu and the open Pacific. As the sun drops the sky turns orange and violet, and by showtime the city below has become a field of lights.

Each evening is capped at seventy to a hundred guests, so it feels closer to a family gathering than a production. Things open around 4:00 p.m. with hands-on sessions across the lawn, followed by a Hawaiian buffet of kalua pig, poke and island vegetables, storytelling hula about the ancestors who crossed the Pacific by canoe, and a fire knife finale.

Price Adults $170 / juniors ages 13–20 $130 / children ages 3–12 $110 / under 24 months free
운송 Round-trip Waikiki transfer $26 per person extra
Capacity About 70 to 100 guests per evening
위치 Nutridge Estate, Tantalus, about 20 to 30 minutes from Waikiki
Days Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Aloha Kai Luau

Sea Life Park, Makapuʻu, east shore / Open-air ocean-view venue with an imu ceremony / Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Aloha Kai is held at Sea Life Park on Oahu’s east coast, twenty-five to forty minutes from Waikiki, with Manana Island offshore and the Makapuʻu coastline in view beyond it. The venue is not on the sand itself; it is an open-air space with the ocean in front of you and a trade wind coming through, which keeps the whole evening cool. For an outdoor luau that is still close to Waikiki, it is the best placed of the group.

It is also the only luau here with a traditional imu ceremony, where the kalua pig is uncovered from the underground oven in front of guests. The cultural activities beforehand are unusually hands-on: coconut leaf weaving, ukulele, making a kupeʻe bracelet, coconut tree climbing demonstrations and short hula performances through the evening.

Sea Life Park admission is included with every ticket, and the length of the pass is what separates the tiers, so the early transportation pickup lets you spend the afternoon in the park before the luau starts.

Bronze Adults $135 / children ages 4–12 $111; under 3 free
Silver Adults $175 / children $141
Gold Adults $215 / children $160
Included Sea Life Park admission with every ticket; the Bronze pass is good the day before, the day of or the day after, Silver for five days either side, Gold for ten
운송 Round-trip Waikiki pickup $35.99 plus tax per person, six pickup points
위치 Sea Life Park, about 25 to 40 minutes from Waikiki
Days Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

Worth the DriveForty to ninety minutes each way depending on traffic, so plan the evening around the journey

Chief’s Luau

Wet’n’Wild Hawaii, Kapolei / About 40 to 50 minutes from Waikiki / Inland stage, no ocean view / Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Chief’s Luau is led by Chief Sielu Avea, a former world Fire Knife Dance champion, and the host is the reason to come. His timing and his stage manner carry the entire evening; the humor lands whatever language you arrived speaking, and the fire knife finale that closes the show is the most thrilling on Oahu.

Set your expectations on the setting, though. The stage is inland at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii in Kapolei, about forty to fifty minutes from Waikiki. There is no ocean in view and no sunset over the water. What you are paying for here is the performance, not the scenery, and on that count it delivers more than any other luau on the island.

The hour before the show is well used: lei making, a traditional fire-starting demonstration, Polynesian tattoo stickers, and ukulele and hula lessons. Dinner is a proper Hawaiian buffet, with kalua pig from the imu, fresh poke, lomi lomi salmon and haupia for dessert.

A round-trip shuttle runs from the main Waikiki hotels for anyone who would rather not drive out and back in the dark. If you want a quiet dinner with music in the background, this is not it; if you want the evening your group talks about for the rest of the trip, it usually is.

Aloha Adults $144 / children ages 5–12 $102
Paradise Adults $182 / children $129
Royal Adults $231 / children $182
Tiers Differ by seating view, type of lei, number of drink coupons and priority entry to the buffet
운송 Waikiki shuttle at extra cost, seven pickup locations
위치 Wet’n’Wild Hawaii, Kapolei, about 40 to 50 minutes from Waikiki
Days Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; closed Tuesday and most Saturdays, with some Saturdays in season

Ka Waʻa Luau at Aulani

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina / About 40 to 60 minutes from Waikiki / Hālāwai Lawn, open to non-guests / No Mondays or Tuesdays, and the schedule varies

Ka Waʻa is held at the Aulani resort in Ko Olina and tells the story of Hawaiian voyaging culture through music and dance. You do not have to be staying at Aulani to attend; it is a ticketed event open to the public. It is also one of the hardest tickets on this list to get. Demand is high and dates fill early, so check the remaining seats for your travel dates on the official Aulani site or by phone and book well ahead.

The venue is Hālāwai Lawn, an outdoor lawn inside the resort. It is a garden setting set back from the water, so there is no ocean view from the table and no sunset from your seat. There is no imu ceremony either, although the pork is cooked imu style.

What it does better than anyone else is the hands-on half of the evening. Before the show the cultural stations are all worked by hand: pounding taro into poi, printing kapa cloth the traditional way, making a flower bracelet.

The performance itself is built on Hawaiian culture, but partway through comes the cameo the children remember. Moana appears, and Mickey and Minnie come out in Hawaiian dress and dance with them.

For a family traveling with young children this is the most comfortable luau on Oahu. It is forty to sixty minutes from Waikiki, so build the drive home into the plan.

General seating Adults $200 / children ages 3–9 $129 / under 2 free
Preferred seating Adults 10 and over $229 / children ages 3–9 $149 / infants free; adds early check-in, priority seating up front and a digital photo download
Included Gratuities
위치 Hālāwai Lawn, Aulani, Ko Olina, about 40 to 60 minutes from Waikiki
Days No Mondays or Tuesdays, and the luau also closes for resort events, so the schedule varies; confirm your date

Toa Luau

Waimea Valley, North Shore / About 60 to 90 minutes from Waikiki / Samoan family-run, forest valley setting / Mondays and Wednesdays, with seasonal additions

Toa Luau is run by a Samoan family and it is the smallest and most personal evening of the ten. The stage sits close to the tables, so performers and guests mix rather than face each other. If what you want is the feeling of an ohana gathering rather than a production for several hundred people, this is the one.

It is held inside Waimea Valley, and the luau ticket includes admission to the botanical garden and Waimea Falls. Spend the afternoon on the rainforest trails and in the pool below the waterfall, then walk up to the pavilion as the light goes. The pre-show activities are taught hand to hand by the cast: husking a coconut and pressing the milk, weaving a fan, starting a fire the traditional way, a hula lesson. Dinner is a Hawaiian buffet with kalua pork from the imu, and the show runs through Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga before the fire knife finale.

There is no ocean view here. The valley and the forest close in around you instead, and that carries a weight of its own. Lunch and early-afternoon shows run as well, which makes this the easiest of the outlying luaus for anyone who would rather not drive home in the dark, and the natural pairing with a Haleiwa and North Shore day.

Silver Adults $135 / children ages 5–12 $95
Gold Adults $165 / youth ages 13–20 $145 / children $125 / ages 4 and under free
VIP Adults $195 / children $155
Included Waimea Valley botanical garden and Waimea Falls admission with every package, valid for seven days before and after your luau
Schedule Published show time 5:00 p.m.; earlier afternoon shows have also been offered, so confirm the time for your date
위치 Waimea Valley, North Shore, about 60 to 90 minutes from Waikiki
Days Mondays and Wednesdays mainly, with additional days in some seasons
Note Swimsuits are not allowed at the luau itself

Polynesian Cultural Center

Laie, northeast shore / About 70 to 90 minutes from Waikiki / Full-day cultural park with dinner and evening show / Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

The Polynesian Cultural Center is in Laie on the northeast coast, roughly seventy to ninety minutes from Waikiki by car, and it is not really an evening out; it is a day. It is a full cultural park rather than a luau venue: you tour the island villages of Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga, join the demonstrations, then sit down to the luau dinner and a large night show. As an introduction to Hawaiian and Polynesian culture it is the most complete thing on the island.

Two things to know before you give it a whole day. There is no ocean view from the park, and the Center is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so no alcohol is sold or served anywhere on the property. It is also the longest round trip here, so build the day around it rather than squeezing it into an afternoon.

Alii Luau package Adults $197.95 / children ages 4–11 $157.96; 12:15 p.m. to 8:35 p.m., covering the guided tour of six island villages, the luau buffet and gold seating for the evening show
VIP A Super Ambassador upgrade is offered with a private guide, platinum seating and a reserved canoe ride; the price is not published online
위치 Laie, about 70 to 90 minutes from Waikiki
Days Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; closed Wednesday and Sunday, with occasional exceptions

Germaine’s Luau

91-119 Olai Street, Kapolei / About 40 to 45 minutes from Waikiki / Beachside dining area by the water / Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Germaine’s is the beach luau of this group, and it is the only one where that is literally true: the long tables are set out on the sand in Kapolei, out past the Ko Olina resorts, with the surf breaking a few steps from the edge of the dining area. If the picture in your head when someone says luau is dinner on the beach, this is the one on Oahu that matches it.

It is also the most traditional in shape. There is a real imu ceremony, with the steamed pig lifted out of the pit oven in front of the guests, and dinner is an all-you-can-eat Hawaiian and American buffet. Come early for the hour before the show: making a fresh floral hairpiece or a kupeʻe, and moko-style temporary Polynesian tattoo art.

The three packages differ mainly in where you sit and how much you drink. Makai puts you around the perimeter of the dining area, Original in the center of it, and Plumeria adds VIP seating both at dinner and at the imu ceremony, a kukui nut lei, three drink tickets and the round-trip coach from Waikiki. At the Makai level it is the cheapest dinner-and-show luau in this guide.

Makai Adults $128 / juniors ages 13–20 $116 / children ages 4–12 $102; perimeter seating, shell lei, one drink ticket
Original Adults $167 / juniors $144 / children $119; center seating, shell lei, two drink tickets
Plumeria Adults $242 / juniors $214 / children $200, infants free; VIP seating at dinner and at the imu ceremony, kukui nut lei, three drink tickets and the round-trip coach
Included All packages carry soft drinks and coffee, the Polynesian show and a souvenir gift
운송 Round-trip coach from Waikiki $35 per person with Makai and Original, included with Plumeria; on-site parking $5, free with Plumeria
위치 91-119 Olai Street, Kapolei, about 40 to 45 minutes from Waikiki
Days Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; check-in from 5:30 p.m.

Choosing by Travel Style

If you want an evening with no driving, Rock-A-Hula and Pāʻina Waikiki are the practical answers. For an outdoor resort atmosphere while staying in Waikiki, Waikiki Starlight works well, and for a special occasion Aha Aina is the one worth the money.

For an ocean view on the east shore, book Aloha Kai and take the early pickup so Sea Life Park becomes part of the day. For the loudest, most physical fire knife show, Chief’s Luau.

If you would rather learn something than watch a production, Nutridge is the small-group alternative, and the Polynesian Cultural Center is the full-day version of the same idea. Toa Luau pairs with North Shore scenery, Ka Waʻa suits families traveling with children, and Aha Aina suits an anniversary. And for dinner beside the water, Germaine’s is the beachfront choice and the cheapest dinner-and-show on the list.

예약하기 전에

Most luaus do not run every night, and the performance days, venue, dinner menu and package contents all change with the season. Even packages that include alcohol usually cap the number of drinks. Seating tier is what decides the lei, the photographs and whether transportation is included, so compare tiers rather than headline prices.

For the venues outside Waikiki, check how you are getting back late at night before you book the ticket.

Operating days and rates above are current as of November 2026 and are subject to change without notice. They are reference information drawn from publicly available sources, not confirmed 2027 schedules or fares. The prices listed are either regular rates or temporary promotional rates; tax and booking fees are added on top, and round-trip transportation costs extra wherever it is not already included in the package. Holiday and peak dates may carry a surcharge. Confirm the operating day for your date and the final price before you book.
